Pelting rain and cold wind couldn't stop the heated battle for championship cups during the Sea to Sky Hotel / G & T Spa men's soccer league final Saturday (April 16).
Whistler F.C. faced M.小蓝视频 Rangers in the fight for the Premiership Cup, the league championship. Whistler dominated most of the game while the Rangers had a hard time capitalizing on good scoring opportunities. A goal by Alex Earl put Whistler on the board first and the Rangers' Durinder Burr answered within five minutes to tie it 1-1. The Rangers' celebration was short-lived when just a few minutes later Marvin Sanderson scored a head goal for Whistler making it 2-1. A final goal by Mark Sedgewick sealed the teams' fates with a final score of Whistler 3, Rangers 1.
Thunder faced Brew Pub for the consolation final in what players described as a "barn burner". The teams sparred back and forth to tie 2-2 in the final 15 minutes of the game. That's when Brew Pub's Moe Freitag turned on the heat. Freitag launched the game-winning third goal and set up teammate Danny Kingston for another to clinch the Divisional Cup. With a final score of 4-2, the championship is the first in Brew Pub's history.
The league held an awards ceremony following the finals. Lil'WAT7uhl earned the most sportsmanlike team trophy, and eight most valuable player trophies were awarded to Bin Toor, Jake Edmonds, Mark Sedgewick, Adrian Armstrong, Sean Hicks, Daniel Harry, Kim Stanley, Willy Antone and Charles Carter.
That wraps up the season until September, and the league wishes to thank its sponsors, the referees, statistician Dave Armstrong, concession workers and the league executive.
