Jan. 28, 1949 to Dec. 1, 2024
With great sadness, we announce the passing of our father, Sukh Ram Nand, at Sea to Sky Hospice on Dec. 1, 2024, while surrounded by his family.
Sukh was born on Jan. 28, 1949, in Raki Raki (Fiji Islands), the sixth of 14 brothers and sisters.
He completed his primary and post-secondary education in Fiji (Penang Sangam High School and Derrick Technical Institute) and worked for some time at the Fiji Sugarcane Corporation (FSC).
It was while working at the FSC that he met Rishi Deo, who introduced him to his younger sister, Satya Wati Din.
He ended up marrying Satya in 1972, and shortly thereafter, they welcomed their first daughter, Saileshni.
He wanted to provide a better life for his young family, and Sukh decided to leave the country of his birth and immigrate to British Columbia.
His brother-in-law Rishi convinced him to move to Squamish, as 小蓝视频 Rail was hiring machinists.
Sukh spent the next few decades working in the wheel shop at 小蓝视频 Rail.
He built his dream house in Valleycliffe and raised his growing family. He elected to take early retirement when the shops moved to Prince George, and once he retired from 小蓝视频 Rail, he began working at Walmart, where he found a new community of friends amongst other like-minded retirees.
Sukh was dedicated to his family, especially his daughters and grandsons.
He was married to the love of his life, Satya, for 52 years, and they raised three beautiful daughters: Sally (Adam), Stephanie (Matt) and Shalvenie (Shick).
He was also a very proud grandfather to his grandsons, Brandon and Jaedon.
He loved spoiling his grandsons as much as they would let him.
He loved dogs and was privileged to have many four-legged companions share his life.
As he got older, he became a fixture at the local casino, heading out every weekend with his family to tempt Lady Luck.
He was known as "Papa" to all his family. He was a fun-loving, charismatic man who always had a joke at the ready.
He was a diehard fan of all 小蓝视频 sports teams: the Whitecaps, the Lions and his beloved Vancouver Canucks; and had a designated group of buddies he attended games with. He loved driving, especially Toyotas.
He struggled with health issues his entire life and managed them with a combination of humour and perseverance. He never complained about the limits these issues placed on him but tried to live his life in spite of them.
He was the type of man who would give the shirt off his back for those in need. He was the first to step up and the last to back down when it came to his family and friends.

We will miss you so much, Papa.
