As the heat wave drags on, temperature records continue to fall across the province.
On Tuesday, new record highs were set in nearly 40 communities, including several in the Southern Interior.
Kamloops topped out at 40.6 C, surging past the old July 9 mark of 38.6, set in 2015. Kelowna set a new record at 39.3 C. The previous high was also set in 2015, at 38.6 C.
In Vernon, a new high was set Tuesday when the temperature reached 39.6 C. The old record of 36.7 C was set in 1905. Penticton’s new record of 38.4 C surpassed the 1919 mark of 37.2 C.
Lytton was a scorching 42.5 C yesterday, shooting past the 1975 record of 40.6 C for July 9.
Daytime highs could again reach 40 C or higher in some Southern Interior communities today and there’s not much relief in sight. While it will cool slightly, the forecast shows highs in the mid 30s C right through the weekend with little to no chance of rain.
Due to the extreme heat and dry conditions, a will take effect at noon on Friday.
