The sun is expected to shine for several days this week as temperatures climb across the Lower Mainland.
Environment Canada meteorologist Chris Doyle tells V.I.A. that some eastern parts of Metro Vancouver may see showers around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, although they shouldn't last long. More widespread showers are expected to commence around 9 p.m. and continue overnight through the morning with wind gusting up to 30 km/h.
Wednesday morning may see showers, but the afternoon is expected to be mostly clear as a ridge of high pressure builds.
Thursday through Saturday's forecast includes sunshine and daytime highs climbing above the seasonal average. Temperatures will be slightly cooler near the water, with highs of 13 C and 14 C, while island temperatures will range between 16 C and 19 C, Doyle says.
"We're kinda coming into April like a lamb," he notes.
Overnight lows are expected to dip closer to the seasonal average of 4 C.
The Metro Vancouver weather forecast includes spring showers
Sunday is expected to be the warmest day of the week, with temperatures climbing to 16 C on the water and up to 21 C inland. However, a maritime cold front tracking off the Pacific could produce showers and bring temperatures back down overnight.
A risk of thunderstorms is possible Sunday evening as the low-pressure system moves aloft warmer surface temperatures creating an unstable atmosphere.
The showery pattern is expected to persist through Wednesday, with another ridge of high pressure building heading into Thursday.
Another warmer, drier pattern is expected to follow, but it is too soon to say how long it will last.
