Jeff Cooke announced Monday morning he is stepping down from his role as president of SORCA and entering the race to be mayor of Squamish.
"We live in one of the most beautiful places on this planet and currently one of the fastest growing in Canada," said Cooke in a press release.
"What will it look like and perhaps as importantly, what will it live like in 2022, 2026 and beyond? We can decide now and shape the future we want or just let it happen without any plan whatsoever."
Cooke said he will be releasing a detailed platform in the coming weeks, but referenced Squamish's growing pains in his release.
"Many people have shared with me their concern for where they think we are headed. I get it. I understand the frustration. And I want to be there to make the right choices that will build a more solid foundation for our future," he said.
On Monday afternoon Squamish Off-Road Cycling Association announced Cooke would step down from the organization in order to run.
He has served as president of the organization for the past six years and as president of Sea to Sky Crime Stoppers for the past seven. He also served on the Chamber of Commerce Board from 2012 to 2014.
Cooke has an MBA from the University of Toronto. He launched Bark Busters In Home Dog Training with his wife in 2003, which has since grown into a successful franchise of dog training businesses.
More to come.
