Squamish Issues
What do you think is the biggest single issue facing Squamish? (150 words limit) |
Garibaldi at Squamish. The development of 22,500 bed units (several thousand dwelling units) in an undeveloped and pristine area on our boundary would have a very significant impact on our community. |
In the last term, what was council's single greatest accomplishment? What was council's biggest failure? (150 character limit) |
听The consultation, engagement and finalizing of our Official Community Plan 听 |
Residents often complain about traffic (speeding, parking etc.) What would you do to improve traffic and parking in Squamish? (150 words limit) |
I would lower speed limits in the residential areas (not the collector streets) and use traffic calming measures on other streets. Parking in the downtown area could be improved by increased bus service, increased walkability and I think eventually a parking garage.听 |
Squamish has a housing affordability crisis. What would you do to improve affordability? (150 words limit) |
Continued use of zoning power to require affordable rental units and purpose built rental units as part of new developments. |
Do you support stronger regulation of AirBNB? |
Yes |
How would you attract new businesses and employers to Squamish? (150 words limit) |

Do you have a strategy to implement regional transit? (150 word limit) |
Yes and efforts are already under way. It is a regional issue and must be accomplished with the other two municipalities in the corridor. Part of the funding issue could be a gas tax similar to Metro Vancouver. That takes provincial approval but, in concert with the other two municipalities, could be realized. |
Given limited financial resources, what do you think is the single highest priority for Brennan Park? (150 word limit) |
Additional space for kids programming. I know a second ice sheet is needed and expanding the pool would be a benefit but I think the real shortage now is available programming for kids. We have waiting lists and registrations sold out within minutes of opening for some programs. |
Do you support cannabis retail shops in Squamish? |
Yes |
