It’s an exclamation that is sometimes heard, followed by a series of branchy clacks or wooden clunks, by the owner of a particular heritage property backing onto the seventh hole of Gleneagles Golf Course in West Vancouver.
The property at 6155 Gleneagles Dr. was once the golf course’s original clubhouse. Now it's a carefully restored and updated home, and on Monday it was listed on the market for $3.7 million.
Originally built in 1928, the Tudor Revival structure is on West Vancouver’s community heritage register.
“Marine Drive had been opened as far as Whytecliff in 1926; this was the first building to be built in District Lot 771 after its subdivision,” the heritage description reads. “Its conversion to a private home is a successful example of the adaptive re-use of historic sites.”
In the 1950s, the Gleneagles clubhouse moved to the building at 6190 Marine Dr.
Significant restorations and additions to the Tudor home were completed in 2004 by Goldwood Homes.
Neither the listing agent nor the District of West Vancouver have a record of the original architect or builder.
At 2,703 square feet, the three-bedroom, three-bathroom home has a waterfront view in the Whytecliff neighbourhood.
From the outside, the Tudor styling boasts dramatic pitches on the roof, and ornamental details on the side of the home.
The interior features a great room with vaulted ceilings and a fireplace. That space connects to outdoor patios with a pool and hot tub.
Golfers will appreciate the adjacent course, as well as the prudent patch of tall trees and high fence behind the home to deter errant golf balls.
