Is it time for an organized community fireworks display on Halloween?
The last permitted community fireworks display in Squamish was at Brennan Park Recreation Centre in 2019.
With the rogue fire works deployed this Halloween, and the mayhem that accompanied it, could it be that we need a sanctioned event that could serve as a central point where folks who want fireworks could head? (And ideally, reduce the desire for unsanctioned fireworks.)
Asked if the muni were considering such a thing for next year, a spokesperson said, not really.
"Public safety is always top priority, while also balancing the ability for public celebrations to occur. The District of Squamish is reviewing the Oct. 31 fireworks incidents with the responding agencies and, following that, may consider implementing measures to ensure the safety of the community," the spokesperson said.
"The District permits special events, and fireworks could be considered as part of a special event permit."
Meaning, perhaps another agency could throw a fireworks event.
But is that what locals want? About half of us do, according to our poll.
The 小蓝视频 polled 181 readers and asked the question: Would you like to see an organized fireworks display on Halloween again?
The poll ran from 11/7/2024 to 11/14/2024. Of the 181 votes, we can determine that 100 are from within the community. The full results are as follows:
