"A hole in one is amazing when you think of the different universes this white mass of molecules has to pass through on its way to the hole," said golf great Mac O'Grady.
But last week, Squamish resident Donna Wall beat the odds - calculated at 8,000 to 1 - during a holiday at Wells Gray Golf Resort and RV Park.
"If I had been hit by a car, I couldn't have been more shocked," said Wall.
Wall's feat makes her the first woman and third person ever to get a hole-in-one at the course, said pro shop manager Betsy Hystead.
"A hole-in-one may never happen to 99 per cent of golfers," she said.
Wall teed off at the eighth hole of the scenic 9-hole course. She faced a 155-yard par three and lost the ball in mid-flight. Wall searched for the ball for some time before her husband Ernie suggested she look in the cup.
"It was a last ditch effort," she said.
It may have been the last place Wall would've looked, but having hit a hole-in-one in Pemberton last year, Ernie was quite aware that it was possible. Wall's name will be engraved on a plaque, she also received a sleeve of logo golf balls, a bottle of wine, a free weekend of golfing and RVing for her and her husband, and many, many handshakes.
