The underachievers are now the team to beat in the Howe Sound Men's Soccer League.
The Brew Pub men's soccer team has the highest points in the league this year. But for three years, it was at the bottom of the scoring.
"The first three years we won three games in three years," said Moe Freitag, who has played on the team since it was formed as an expansion team five years ago.
"It's been a total turnaround."
Last year the team played .500 soccer and it just kept moving the ball forward.
"This year we're undefeated," Freitag said.
"It's awesome," he said. "Team spirit is so good, and we're having so much fun with it."
Freitag attributed a lot of the recent success to the team coach/player Scott Lamont.
"Scott Lamont as a coach is great," he said.
He keeps everybody together and organized, Freitag said.
"Young guys moving out of the high school system has helped us a lot too," Freitag said.
Freitag said the turning point for the team might have been during summer when it played in a tournament in Kamloops and went undefeated.
The team has finally jelled into a force on the field. Many of the players, like Freitag, have stuck with the team.
Some of the guys have been with the team from the beginning and know the strengths and weaknesses of the players and works with that, Freitag said.
Brew Pub had a strong win over the Lil'WAT7uhl team on Sunday. The score was 6-2.
The team has five wins and two ties and leads the league with 17 points. But the Whistler FC team is just behind with five wins, one loss, one tie and 16 points.
"I think our biggest competition will be Whistler FC and Inter United," Freitag said.
The Inter united team has some players who used to be on the Brew Pub team.
"I think that will be a personal rivalry for us."
Although the team is doing well, it will have to prepare for the future if it wants to stay on top.
"I think we need to possibly develop a few more up and coming players," Freitag said, noting there are some players who want to spend less time on the field.
He said the team needs to develop a couple more strikers, and continue draw players from the high school league.
Freitag said the goaltending and defence have been the team's strengths.
Brew Pub plays Whistler FC on Sunday (Oct. 31) at 10 a.m. at Brennan Park.
