Curling fan or not, audiences are guaranteed an entertaining hour when one of Canada's most beloved curling champions visits the Howe Sound Curling Club Wednesday (Oct. 5). Guy Hemmings and the Canadian Curling Association bring the national "Rockin' the House" tour to the rink located in the Squamish Valley Golf and Country Club from 11 a.m. to noon. He will also share his famously fun-loving demeanor during a short talk at Mamquam Elementary.
Known as an easy-going spirit, Hemmings captured the imagination of both curling aficionados and those who weren't diehard fans. He moved to France, but returned in 2001 when the Canadian Curling Association recruited him to share his love of the sport with the rest of Canada.
"The sport has taken me to all corners of my country, where I discovered people of all ages in major Canadian cities and far-removed places who had the same passion, the same life choices and the same ambitions as I did," said Hemmings. "These were people who could get over linguistic or cultural barriers just to share some time on the ice or even become good friends, regardless of age differences, social status or language."
Everyone is invited to attend the strategy session, which will also feature Canadian Curling Association coaches Bill Tschirhart and Andre [email protected]
