One Squamish Tim Hortons location temporarily closed due to staff shortage

Restaurant hit hard by COVID-19 set to reopen in a few days, company says

If you are a regular java drinker, you likely noticed Squamish's Tim Hortons on 1811 Garibaldi Way has been shuttered since Jan. 5.

A media relations spokesperson for the company told The СÀ¶ÊÓƵ that the location is temporarily closed, "as a number of team members are currently isolating due to testing positive for COVID-19, or being in close contact with someone who has tested positive."

The restaurant has been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized and it’s anticipated it will reopen in a few days, the spokesperson said.

The restaurant is not alone in its staffing issues.

On Tuesday, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry warned that up to one-third of the workforce in СÀ¶ÊÓƵ could go down with Omicron.

"We need to anticipate that as many as a third of your workforce at any one time may become ill with COVID-19," Henry said at a news conference. "We need to adapt businesses so we can operate at these reduced numbers."

From January 2020 to December of 2021, Howe Sound logged 4,199 positive cases, according to the СÀ¶ÊÓƵ Centre for Disease Control stats. For every 100,000 people in our region, there are over 8,000 cases of COVID-19, in other words.
