With the October municipal voting day getting ever closer, here is information that every resident should know.
The deadline for turning in candidate nomination papers was Friday, Sept. 9 at 4 p.m.
Squamish has six councillors and one mayor. Each elected official gets one vote in council decisions, but the mayor has the ability to determine council’s agenda when elected officials meet.
For the Sea to Sky School Board, Squamish and its surrounding rural area, Electoral Area D, have a total of three spots on the board.
For the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District, Squamish’s representatives are chosen from those who’ve already been elected to municipal council.
However, residents of rural Squamish can directly run for the one position available for .
Both the school board and SLRD follow the same deadlines as the municipal elections, so Sept. 9 was the deadline for nomination papers.
Finally, for those who are a little too young to run for the municipal, school board or SLRD positions, there is still a place for you. The District of Squamish is seeking applicants for its.

The declaration of the official results will take place on Oct. 19.
