ABOUT TOWN: Last chance for Snow White

It is good to know Hilltop House is open again and that the residents who suffered from the flu are now feeling much better. Hopefully the monthly birthday party on Wednesday (Jan. 21) at 2 p.m. will lift their spirits too.

It is good to know Hilltop House is open again and that the residents who suffered from the flu are now feeling much better. Hopefully the monthly birthday party on Wednesday (Jan. 21) at 2 p.m. will lift their spirits too. Birthday wishes are sent to Mary Bennett, Judy Robinson, Rosamund Dashwood, Gerdie Griffin, Delfina Alverninni, Elizabeth Simpson, Harry Dickson, Freda Baity, Peggy Suter, Hannah Kirkwood and Anne Kristianson.

A friend asked if I thought the pantomime Snow White would be appropriate for her three-year-old granddaughter. The answer is yes, yes, yes! I and a few friends went to the matinee performance Saturday and all the children in the audience made it worthwhile. They had great fun booing the villainess, following Chuckles' directions and adoring Snow White, Prince Michael and all the other characters. The chorus of boys and girls added to a wonderful performance by all. Between Shifts Theatre invites you to the Eagle Eye tonight (Jan. 16) at 8 p.m. or Saturday (Jan. 10) at 2 and 8 p.m. for the final performances. Tickets are available at the Eagle Run Coffee Company and Billie's Bouquet at $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $5 for children. There may also be a few tickets at the door.

The Women's Auxiliary to Squamish General Hospital has done it again! This past year its fundraising sales, raffles, memorial gifts and running the gift shop at SGH raised more than $20,000. This amount was given to the hospital for the purchase of an endoscopy. With the donation of $500 from the Royal Canadian Legion Diamond Head branch they were also able to purchase two oxygen pressure sensors. The Auxiliary thanks the community for its continued support, but I think a big thank-you goes out to WA members for their long hours of volunteer work.

A special screening of the feature film The Big Bank Theory will be shown at the Eagle Eye Community Theatre on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. The movie was shot in Squamish and was written and directed by Adriane Polo, with many local actors and crew members involved. The film is a road-trip comedy about two guys, lots of money and villainy. Tickets are available at Mostly Books and Highland Video at $8 for adults and $6 for students and seniors.

Roy Hamaguchi's photographs have appeared in numerous magazines and also on a Canadian postage stamp. Meet Mr. Hamaguchi at the Brackendale Art Gallery Saturday evening (Jan. 17) at 8 p.m. for his slide show on "Cranes and Salmon."

Last summer, Robert (Bobby) Dawson and his wife Arlene retired to Westbank in the Okanagan. Bobby was born and raised in Squamish and spent all his life here. Sadly, I have to report that Bobby died suddenly on Jan. 11. Sincere sympathy is extended to Arlene and son Scott, daughter Shannon and their families. A memorial service was held at Squamish Funeral Chapel Thursday (Jan. 15).
