It is a fine way to showcase the talents of this community in music, art, crafts, filmmaking and individual street performers. Take your time as you check out the many venues, enjoy a great variety of music and chat with those participating.

Hats off to those who have done the legwork in making this day a reality.



The Squamish Skating Club is holding a bottle drive Saturday (Feb. 28) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Money raised will go to the club's upcoming competition in Parksville.



A birthday sale is being held at the Mini Flea Market from Feb. 28 to Mar. 31. The store at 38051 Second Ave. is open seven days a week. There is free cake, coffee and balloons and a birthday draw on Mar. 31.



Parents should be the primary sexuality educators of their children, but sometimes parents need the tools and information to take advantage of "teachable moments" with their children.

The Vancouver Coastal Health Authority is pleased to host an interactive workshop entitled Are You An Askable Parent? A workshop free of charge is being offered Monday (Mar. 1) from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Squamish Public Library.

The Wild West Skate at Brennan Park (Feb. 27) from, 7:25 to 9:40 p.m. is a round-up for all your family to take part in barrel racing, horseshoes and more. On Friday, Mar. 12 there is a get-up-and-go Pro D camp and for more information, please call 604-898-3604.



On Friday (Mar. 5) the World Day of Prayer service will be hosted by Squamish United Church at 7:30 p.m. The 2004 service theme is "Faith, Women Shape the Future" written by the women of Panama.



As the West Coast Railway Heritage park is hosting the first "Day Out With Thomas" event in Western Canada on June 11-13 and June 18-20 weekends, many volunteers will be needed to make it a successful event. My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed the Heritage Tea at the park on Feb. 21. The refreshments were delicious, the ladies who served us were dressed in costumes of the era and were the friendliest and the setting in the Brightbill House was most memorable. As we enjoyed our tea, we had fun reminiscing about the "good old days".



For all Jazz lovers, Capilano College is pleased to present the third annual Hot Jazz Tapas in the Eagle Eye Theatre on Friday, Mar. 5 from 7 to 10 p.m.

Tickets at $25 each are available at the College (1150 Carson Pl.) or by phoning 604-892-5322. Proceeds will go to the Linda Carney Memorial Endowment Fund, which benefits students at the Squamish Campus.



The Squamish Nation (Valley) Women is presenting a benefit performance of Eve Ensler's play The Vagina Monologues on Saturday, Mar. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Totem Hall. This benefit fundraiser is to help put an end to violence against women and girls and is part of the V-Day 2004 Worldwide campaign. Tickets in advance are $12 and available at Billie's Bouquet, Eagle Run Coffee Company and Totem Hall. If purchased at the door tickets are $15 each.



The Squamish Soup Kitchen is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the United Church's Trinity hall on Fourth Avenue. Single seniors are invited to take part in a hot lunch and fellowship with others.



There is still time for teens to join the Teen Book Club at the Squamish Public Library and participate in the book discussion and pizza night on Tuesday (Mar. 2) at 5:30 p.m. Pick up a copy of Stargirl by Jerry Spinellis at the library, read it and be at the library on Tuesday night.
