If you know the words to "You're The One That I Want", "Hopelessly Devoted To You" and "Greased Lightin'" pay attention. The Sea to Sky Singers is holding a Grease Extravaganza beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 at Howe Sound Secondary School. The fundraising event allows fans of the classic 1978 hit movie to sing along and dress up in the 1950s "greaser" style.
Audiences in or out of costume can pose for photos with retro cars and motorcycles, play penny carnival games such as balloon darts and dunk tank, sing karaoke, or let hairdressers give them wacky retro 'dos. The evening wraps up with a family sock hop.
"Sea to Sky Singers is a non-profit, enthusiastic community choir dedicated to professionalism, learning, and performing a variety of music within and outside the Squamish district," said organizer Veronica McPhee. "All the money raised will go back to the Sea to Sky Singers to pay hall rental, honorariums, music purchases, and other operating costs. Sea to Sky Singers is also devoted to donating scholarships for local music students."
The cost of the event is $10, and the first 100 people through the door will receive a free gift bag of Grease goodies. Tickets are available for $10 at Billie's Bouquet, Highland Video, Mostly Books, and at the door.
The choir is also recruiting new members."We warmly welcome new and returning members of all abilities and experience," said McPhee. Sea to Sky Singers resumes rehearsals Tuesday (Sept. 13) from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Squamish Baptist Church. The first concert of the season will be the Saturday (Dec. 3) Christmas show and will include guest soloists.
