Young local entertainers are taking what they learned this summer at acting camp and turning it into a stage show called Annie Jr.
The show is an edited, one-act version of the Broadway play based on the book written by Thomas Meehan.
According to show producer Shayan Bayat, a revue featuring monologues, singing and dancing will follow the one-act play. Bayat said Annie Jr. is mostly for very young performers, so the additional revue gives the older performers a chance to showcase their talents.
The show will wrap up with a number featuring the students and the Broadway or Bust instructors.
"We all love to get on the stage," said Bayat.
The theatre camp was held at the Squamish Baptist Church through the summer and Bayat said he's very thankful to the church and all the supporters of the camp and the performance.
The performance is planned for two nights: Thursday and Friday (Aug. 25 and 26) at the Eagle Eye Theatre. There is also a matinee show on Friday.
The evening shows start at 7 p.m. and the matinee begins at 2 p.m. with the doors opening half an hour before the curtain goes up.
Tickets are available at Billie's Bouquet at a cost of $10 for children and seniors and $12 for adults.
The show is the culmination of the work and learning done by a group of young local performers in the Broadway or Bust summer theatre camp spearheaded by Ryan Mooney. More than 30 young people from the ages of seven to 18 joined the camp, which covered dancing, acting and singing.
"We hope to do it again next year and we hope to offer a fall semester," Bayat said of the theatre camps.MKH Productions and Road Trip Productions are teaming up to put on the show this weekend.
