The Squamish distillery took home two awards for its Black Tusk Smoked Vodka at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and SIP Awards.

Squamish distillery, Raincity Distillery, has received international recognition for its spirits.

In a June 20 news release, Raincity Distillery announced that its Black Tusk Smoked Vodka recently received the bronze at the

“Recognition from such an influential organization not only provides this small town distillery with a strong foothold in the U.S. and international markets but also establishes their brand as a symbol of excellence in the industry,” reads the release.

The SFWSC reviews about 5,000 spirit applications annually and Raincity had previously received recognition from the contest in 2022 when the Black Tusk Smoked Vodka earned silver.

“We are beyond thrilled,” said Alex Mumm, co-founder and head distiller at Raincity, in the release. “We’re excited to see where these awards take us.”

On top of the SFWSC award, the distillery also earned a platinum medal at the SIP awards for the Black Tusk Smoked Vodka, which took place in early June 2023.

The release notes that the process of creating the vodka was difficult at times, recalling 100 failed recipes. The idea to create a cedar-smoked vodka was inspired by craft cocktails that used a smoking gun and cloche.

“We wanted to give people a way to create premium cocktails without spending hundreds of dollars on fancy bartending equipment,” reads the release.

Raincity is located in the industrial area, near Mountain Retreat Hotel and Suites and The Brick, on Progress Way. It is open every day with varying hours between weekdays and the weekend.

The distillery recently released its first cocktail-in-a-bottle, the Ginseng Rye Old Fashioned, which is available for purchase on its website .
