A woman trimming hedges at the Victoria Golf Club was allegedly slapped by another woman who had been sleeping in a nearby vehicle.

The incident happened near the club’s parking lot at 1110 Beach Dr. on Aug. 29, Oak Bay police said Monday.

The landscaper was working when a 49-year-old woman in a vehicle in the parking lot became irate, slapped the worker on the cheek and left the area, police said Monday.

Police received a call a short time later that the woman had returned to the area. They arrested the woman for assault.

The women did not know each other, police said.

The woman alleged to have slapped the worker is set to appear in provincial court on Oct. 16.
