A mudslide washed away a Coquitlam house and a search is underway for the homeowner and possibly more people.
Copious amount of rain and strong wind came to the south coast of 小蓝视频 and parts of the Southern Interior during the storm that started on Friday.
According to Environment Canada, 113 millimetres of rain has fallen from Friday to Sunday morning as of 5 a.m.
Coquitlam RCMP was called to a report of a mudslide at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday along Quarry Road.
A house was washed away in the slide and police were unable to find the homeowner.
Police did not confirm the identity of the homeowner or if there is more than one person who is missing.
"The mudslide washed away one home, which is believed to have been occupied. Efforts continue to locate the home and resident(s)," says Cpl. Alexa Hodgins.
Coquitlam Search and Rescue and Coquitlam Fire and Rescue started searching again on Sunday.
Hodgins says Quarry Road has been damaged and several residents are being affected on the other side of the slide.
"First responders are in contact with the residents and confirmed that they are able to shelter in place, but there is no updated timeline as to when the road will be cleared,” she says.
Quarry Road between Calgary Drive and MacIntyre Road will remain closed as search efforts continue.
Hodgins says there are treacherous conditions and the area is ‘unstable, dangerous and unsafe.'
"We are urging the public to stay out of the area,” says Hodgins.
