O'Grady has created signage for the upcoming pink salmon return called "Think Pink" and is installing them around the Stawamus and Little Stawamus rivers and other spawning rivers this week.
"Squamish's rivers are being used as swimming holes and picnic or barbecue sites and doggie playgrounds as folks are unaware of the miracle that's about to happen," she told The Chief in an email.
In a few weeks, the salmon will return to spawn.
She said folks need to understand how fragile and deeply essential salmon returns are and have become.
"SRWS, Squamish Streamkeepers and DFO are hoping this signage will at least prevent some of the damage and educate and inspire some people to become stewards of the river and salmon rather than unaware," she said.
