A delivery driver who was captured on a doorbell camera video tossing a package at a cat’s face has been “addressed” by his company.
In an email to Glacier Media, UniUni’s director of communications Martin van den Hemel says the situation has been thoroughly investigated.
“Appropriate actions have been taken to resolve it,” he says. “We can confirm that the driver involved has been addressed and steps have been implemented to prevent any recurrence of such behaviour.”
UniUni is considering a “range of possible disciplinary actions, in addition to retraining him.”
An Abbotsford, СÀ¶ÊÓƵ, family was shocked to find out a delivery driver threw a package at their pet on Oct. 16.
Nina Horncastle’s husband texted her to look at their door camera recordings just after 10 a.m.
“I logged on and looked at it and was like, ‘What the heck?’” she says.
In the video, their 10-year-old cat Franny can be seen looking at the delivery person as he walks toward the house. Franny walks towards the door and sits on the mat.
“Then he just looks at her, throws his package at her face and takes a picture and walks away,” says Horncastle. “I was super shocked.”
Franny was not injured during the incident and Horncastle is pleased that the company is taking the situation very seriously. She said they had followed up with her multiple times to address the incident.
But Horncastle says what happened can’t be undone.
"I believe there’s no excuse for anyone to treat an animal that way. It left a bad impression and just made us have less faith in humanity,” she says.
“All I can hope for is that they will hire more kindhearted and conscientious human beings moving forward."
Since the incident, the story has and garnered 2,156 comments, with many people concerned about the driver’s behaviour.
