UPDATE:The ministry closed Highway 99 north of Pemberton last night "out of an abundance of caution at the recommendation of ministry geotechnical experts," reads an emailed statement from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.
"Highway 99 has known slide paths—and heavy rains were forecast last night. So the ministry made the decision to close," the statement reads.
"Fortunately, there were no slides or debris overnight. Staff assessed the highway at first light. There are no further safety concerns, and the road was reopened at 7 a.m."
The existing avalanche closure gates were used to prevent drivers from using Highway 99 during the closure, which lasted from 8 p.m. Monday night to 7 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Heads up, motorists: Highway 99 will be closed tonight between Pemberton and Lillooet due to risk of debris flow.
The road will close from 8 p.m. on Monday to 7 a.m. Tuesday, reads a post on 's website.
"There will be heavy rain between Industrial Way and E Lillooet Rd for 95.1 km (Pemberton to Lillooet)," the post reads.
"Road closure planned. Highway 99 will be CLOSED between Pemberton and Lillooet from 8PM to 7AM due to heavy rainfall and risk of debris flows; plan alternate route."
