One resident has died as a result of now-over COVID-19 outbreak at Squamish's Hilltop House

The outbreak was announced over on Feb. 8.

One resident of Hilltop House has died due to COVID-19, a Vancouver Coastal Health spokesperson confirmed to The Chief on Thursday.

An outbreak of the virus at the long-term care facility was announced over on Feb. 8.

The resident who died got the virus during that outbreak.

The outbreak was first declared on Jan. 13, the same day residents and staff were vaccinated against the virus.

The Squamish facility saw a total of eight COVID cases during the outbreak.

This is the only death associated with that spate of cases.

"I extend heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of this resident. I would also like to extend my sympathies to the team and caregivers at Hilltop House who are also mourning this loss,” reads a letter to families from Vancouver Coastal Health.

Hilltop House has 85 beds and serves the Sea to Sky Corridor.

During the outbreak, only compassionate visits for those residents at the end of life were permitted.

Visits were allowed again once the outbreak was declared over.

There are currently active COVID-19 outbreaks at 16 seniors' care homes, assisted-living facilities and retirement residences across 小蓝视频

This is down from as many as 52 such facilities in January.
