PORT MOODY, СÀ¶ÊÓƵ — RCMP says the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is investigating the death of a woman whose body was found near a Port Moody, СÀ¶ÊÓƵ, marina on New Year's Day.
Police said they were called to the Reed Point Marina around 9:20 a.m. on Jan. 1 when a person was reported in the water.
They said the body of a woman in her 60s was pulled to shore with help from the Coast Guard.
Homicide investigators now say the circumstances have been deemed suspicious and criminality has not been ruled out.
They say officers are canvassing for witnesses and video surveillance, but the victim is not being identified to respect her family's privacy as they grieve.
IHIT says investigators believe it was an isolated incident and there is no further risk to the public, but is asking anyone with information to reach out.
"We are interested in speaking with anyone who was in the area of Reed Point Marina between 3 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2024, and 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2025," Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT says in a news release. "Dashcam video would be especially helpful and we are asking you to contact IHIT as soon as possible."
