Drive-thru candlelight vigil organized following Lynn Valley knife attack

COVID-safe event to take place Saturday, April 3 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
A drive-thru candlelight vigil will take place this Saturday in Lynn Valley, one week after a violent knife attack left the community reeling.

The Lynn Valley Lions Club, with support from the Royal Canadian Legion's Lynn Valley branch and the District of North Vancouver, has set up a COVID-safe vigil for Saturday, April 3 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. that will largely take place in a portion of Lynn Canyon Park.

The park’s lower parking lot will be closed Saturday to allow for setup. The park will be closed to all public access starting at 7 p.m.

The park will be closed to foot traffic for the entirety of the vigil in order to support physical distancing. Starting at 7:30 p.m., drivers can access the vigil entrance by heading east on Ross Road, which leads into the park.

After driving north through the park for the candlelight vigil, cars will exit onto Peters Road.

The district will have multiple traffic teams located at key intersections to assist the public, according to the Lions.

The vigil will feature three areas along the way with acoustic music and a light display, along with art created by hundreds of children from the community.

“This community response was designed with COVID compliance first and foremost. Additionally, it was designed to allow our community to safely express our solidarity and strength within the beautiful park we all cherish,” reads a statement on the Lions website.

One woman was killed and six others were injured during the attack on Saturday that took place inside and outside the Lynn Valley Village library complex.

On Wednesday [March 31], the library reopened.
