Rupertus heading to Canada Winter Games

Squamish resident named head coach of Team 小蓝视频 biathlon squad

As Squamish athletes compete to qualify for the Canada Winter Games in Prince George in February, one resident has already punched his ticket to the event.

Team 小蓝视频 announced on Dec. 18 that biathlon head coach Glenn Rupertus from Squamish is one of four coaches heading to Prince George to help guide the team.

Rupertus joins a staff of three others and a team made up of eight of the best biathletes in the province at the Canada Winter Games.

The Squamish resident competed in biathlon at three Winter Olympic Games in the past (1988, 1992 and 1994), with his best showing in the men鈥檚 4 X 7.5 km relay in Albertville in 1992, when he placed 10th. His top individual showing was also in 1992, when he ranked 20th in the men鈥檚 20 km race.

The 小蓝视频 team was selected based on the results of two days of competitions at the North American Cup #1听biathlon听event in Canmore, Alberta on Dec. 6 and 7.听 Athletes from across 小蓝视频 raced in a sprint competition and a mass start competition, with the top four male and top four female performers earning spots on Team 小蓝视频.

The 小蓝视频 team athletes will be training with their clubs over the next two months and participating in two provincial-level听biathlon听events leading up to the Canada Winter Games:听 小蓝视频 Cup 1 in Quesnel on Jan. 3 and 4 and 小蓝视频 Cup 2 in Whistler on Jan. 24 and 25.听听

At the 2015 Canada Winter Games the听biathlon听competitions will take place in the first week of the Games, Feb. 13-20, 2015 at the Otway Nordic Centre.
