The Head family journeyed across the pond for a summer vacation and Harry Head decided it was the perfect opportunity to test his skills against European riders.
Head competed at round three of the Scottish Downhill Series at Nevis Mountain in Fort William, Scotland and placed third on Sunday鈥檚 (June 28) finale.
He said the constantly changing weather made the race a challenge.
鈥淚t made for interesting track familiarization as the frequent changing conditions meant constant adjustments and challenges to the course and racing tactics,鈥 he said in an email. 鈥淚n the end I just had to confidence in myself, training, bike and equipment, giving it everything I had when it counted, without crashing.鈥
Head placed sixth in the first run and second in the second run to earn third place overall at the event. He said he pushed himself on the second run.
鈥淎fter my first race I knew where I could push the throttle even harder, so I did,鈥 he said. 鈥淐rossing the finish line in my second race, it was exhilarating to hear my name announced in first place initially, eventually dropping to second place by just 4.6 seconds.鈥
He said it was a thrill to podium in front of his family and Scottish relatives and now it鈥檚 back to vacationing 鈥 until the British Downhill series race in Wales on July 11 and 12.聽
